Issue 7
Scene 1
The Devil and Michael continue to battle.
The Devil
“This is child’s play.”
Michael
“Why do you fight against me?”
The Devil
“Because we disagree.”
Michael
“We were brothers.”
The Devil
“We will always be brothers, but I have plans.”
Michael
“Join us.”
The Devil
“There is no us. You will always be his lackey.”
Michael
“I’m no one’s lackey. I will show you.”
Michael is angry.
Righteous Vengeance
Michael’s body starts to glow. He grows in size and charges at the Devil. Michael’s attacks are landing on the Devil and doing damage.
The Devil
“Is it wise to expend so much energy?”
Michael is getting even angrier.
Michael
“I will destroy you.”
The Devil
“You know that’s impossible.”
Michael continues to attack. He is overwhelming the Devil.
Michael
“I will win.”
Michael keeps striking the Devil and knocks him to the ground. The Devil takes blow after blow and then Michael starts to slow down. His body shrinks and he is fatigued.
The Devil
“All of that energy wasted and for nothing.”
Michael
“If you won’t join us then at least don’t stand in our way.”
Michael says short of breath.
The Devil
“How many mortals had to perish for that attack?
Michael
“I’m not finished.”
Heavens Wrath
Michael raises his arms and dark clouds begin to form. The wind begins to gust and a circle of javelins made of light surround the Devil.
The Devil Is trying to stand upright when a huge javelin strikes him. The Devil drops to his knees
Scene 2
Amalgam starts to pummel on Adam. Adam seems like he can’t defend himself. He is slow and is constantly taking hits from Amalgam.
Adam
“Why you hit me?”
Amalgam
“Shut up fool.”
Adam
Why we can’t be friends?”
Amalgam
“You are like a child.”
We see an extra eyeball appear on Adam’s forehead. We then see Frankie standing in front of a view screen and a control panel. The view screen shows video of what the eyeball is seeing. It shows Amalgam striking Adam.
Frankie
“Adam, It’s me. You must fight back.”
Adam
“I don’t want to fight.”
Amalgam
“Then you will die.”
Frankie
‘If you don’t fight then I will have to fight for you.”
Frankie starts hitting buttons on the console in front of him.
Adam can morph his own flesh.
Adam makes one of his fists grow larger and strikes Amalgam.
Amalgam is stunned and stumbles backwards.
Adam
“I did it.”
Amalgam
“So, you can fight back.”
Amalgam takes all four arms and strikes Adam at once.
Adam stumbles backwards.
Amalgam then grabs Adam with his two lower arms.
Amalgam then uses his upper two arms and attempts to strike Adam. However Adam catches both of Amalgam’s arms in mid swing.
Adam then grows extra arms on each side of his arms and begins striking Amalgam.
Amalgam breaks free and knocks Adam to the ground. He begins stomping on Adam.
Adam’s head squishes in and out as he continues to get stomped on. Adam tries to talk.
Adam
“Why can’t we be friends?”
Amalgam just laughs.
Frankie
“He is not your friend Adam.”
The year is 1815 in Gersheim Germany.
A country road lined with dense forests on one side and the Rhine River on the other side.
We see a young woman in Victorian apparel riding in a horse drawn carriage. They pull up to an inn. The driver opens the door and the young lady steps out.
A bellhop exits out of a door and begins to collect her luggage from the carriage.
Mrs. Mary Shelley walks into the inn.
A small, chubby bald man with a vest and bow tie is behind a counter.
Herr Kruger
“Welcome to das Gasthaus”. I am Herr Kruger, the owner of this establishment.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Thank you Mr. Kruger. I am Mrs. Mary Shelley. I am in need of a room.”
Herr Kruger
“Yes. I hope your journey was pleasant.”
Mrs. Shelley
“It was quite scenic.”
Herr Kruger
“Yes, the Oden Wald is both beautiful and fearsome.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Yes indeed.”
Herr Kruger
“You must be exhausted. I will have Enewalt show you to your room.
Enewalt?”
Herr Kruger yells out loud.
The bellhop approaches.
Enewalt
“Yes sir?”
Herr Kruger
“Enewalt, please show Mrs. Shelley to her room.”
Enewalt
“Yes, Herr Kruger.”
Herr Kruger
“I hope you will enjoy your stay with us, Mrs. Shelley.”
Mrs. Shelley
“I’m sure I will, Mr. Kruger.”
Mrs. Shelley follows behind Enewalt.
Mrs. Shelley
“There doesn’t seem to be many guests staying here tonight.”
Enewalt
“No ma’am. You are the first guest we have had in quite awhile. This is quite literally the end of the road.”
Mrs. Shelley
“I wish to inquire. Have you heard stories about the alchemist residing in the castle not far from here?”
Enewalt
“The Doctor?”
Mrs. Shelley
“Yes, the Doctor.”
Enewalt
“ I know that he is a solitary man with very few visitors.”
Mrs. Shelley
“But he does accept visitors?”
Enewalt
“Yes ma’am. Last year we had a gentleman stay with us that went to the Doctor’s castle. He hasn’t returned since.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Would you be so kind as to acquire me safe passage to the castle?”
Enewalt
“I’ll ask Herr Kruger to send a message to the castle. We should have a reply by sundown.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Thank you.”
The next day we see Mrs. Shelley riding in a carriage through dark forests and mountains of the Oden Wald.
The carriage comes up to a large medieval stone castle and tower. They pull up to a large entrance with stone stairs.
Advocate is standing at the bottom of the stairs. He opens the door to the carriage.
Advocate
“Welcome to Schloss Frankenstein, Mrs. Shelley.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Thank you.”
Advocate
“Madam, my name is Advocate. The Doctor has asked me to show you to your room. Dinner will be served promptly at 7:00. I will call on you when it is time.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Thank you.”
Mrs. Shelley retires to her room. A few hours later there is a knock at the door. Mrs. Shelley opens the door.
Advocate
“Good evening Madam. If you would be so kind as to please follow me.”
Mrs. Shelley
“If you don’t mind me asking just how long have you been employed by the Doctor?
Advocate
“Only for a few years. I am on loan from my previous benefactor.”
Mrs. Shelley follows Advocate through the castle and to a dining area with a long table. At the head of the table is Frankie and seated to the right of him is Natas.
Frankie
“Mrs. Shelley, thank you for joining us. Please have a seat.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Thank you Doctor.”
Mrs. Shelley sits at the table to the left of Frankie.
Frankie
“Mrs. Shelley, I would like to introduce you to my friend, Mr. Natusch.”
Mr. Natusch is Natas.
Natas
“It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Mrs. Shelley.”
Mrs. Shelley
“The pleasure is mine. I must say that is an interesting cologne that you’re wearing, Mr. Natusch.”
Natas
“That doesn’t sound like much of a compliment.”
Mrs. Shelley
“I meant no offense. It isn’t pungent, but it has an odd smell.”
Natas
“It is a mixture of natural ingredients from the forest. I use it to keep the evil spirits away.”
Mrs. Shelley
“So you believe in the supernatural?”
Natas
“I have seen many things in my years and there is much to be afraid of.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Nonsense.”
Mrs. Shelley says laughing.
Natas
“Have you heard the saying …I know that I know nothing?”
Mrs. Shelley
“Quoting Plato doesn’t mean I’m ignorant of the unknown. However, items you retrieve from the forest won’t protect you.”
Natas
“Well, one can never be too sure.”
Frankie
“Advocate you can serve dinner whenever you are ready.”
Well, Mrs. Shelley. We will see how you feel after tonight.”
I must say I was quite surprised when I got the message stating you wished to visit my castle.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Yes Doctor, I have heard whispers all over Europe of an alchemist working in this area.”
Frankie
“An alchemist you say?”
Mrs. Shelley
“Yes, alchemy as well as galvanism. The idea of generating an electrical current through a chemical action.”
Frankie
“I am not easily impressed, but you have done your research.
Yes, I am currently working on experiments in galvanism.
However, I must say these experiments have also led to accusations of occultism, which I firmly deny.
May I inquire about your interests on this subject?”
Mrs. Shelley
“I only seek knowledge. My husband and sister continued their journey to Switzerland, giving me the opportunity to stop here for a few days.
My passion is the story. The narrative fascinates me more then the science. I wish to be an author.”
Natas
“Well Mrs. Shelley your curiosity has allowed you to take full advantage of a most opportune time in the Doctor’s experiments.”
Mrs. Shelley
“You don’t say?”
Frankie
“Yes, my dear. All of my years of hard work and experiments have led to tonight.
With the financial backing of Mr. Natusch over these past years and my intellect, I have discovered life can be created where there is none.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Interesting. So in some ways you are playing God.”
Natas
“There it is.”
Mrs. Shelley
“And what is that?
Natas
“The quest for the imaginary being that knows the answer to every question.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Even if you don’t believe in God, there are ethical ramifications from your experiments.”
Frankie
“To believe in God is not relative to my work. Why is God always the answer for which we cannot explain?”
Mrs. Shelley
“So you don’t believe in God?”
Frankie
“No, of course not. I don’t mean to offend, but if God was indeed real, he would be the greatest scientist in the universe.
If God is watching us tonight then he will bear witness to his glory through my work.
This evening, I will prove that life is only energy and controlling that energy is the key to the universe.”
Mrs. Shelley
“I can hardly wait.”
Advocate starts to serve dinner.
After dinner all four of them are in a laboratory in the tower of the castle. In this room is a covered body under some coils and cables stretching down from the roof to the table. The storm is moving in and lightning is seen through a small window.
Mrs. Shelley
“Is that a cadaver under that sheet?”
Frankie
“It is my dear. The energy still requires a vessel to contain and manipulate life.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Where will you get this energy from?”
Frankie
“On the top of this tower is a lightning rod consisting of wrought iron, copper and bronze. Tonight during the storm, lightning will strike the rod and conduct electricity to the lifeless body.
The lightning combined with the chemical concoction I have intravenously fed to the cadaver should bring about the spark of life.”
Mrs. Shelley
“How can you be certain it will work?”
Frankie
“Because I have already succeeded once with the corpse of a canine.”
Frankie has Advocate roll out a cage covered in a blanket.
Advocate pulls back the curtain and shows a Frankenstein looking dog. The dog is dead
Mrs. Shelley jumps back in fear.
Mrs. Shelley
“Doctor, this is amazing.”
Frankie
“The canine was alive for three days before it passed. After some further calculations, I believe I have perfected the process. The new vessel shouldn’t deplete its energy and should remain alive.”
Mrs. Shelley
“What are your thoughts, Mr. Natusch?”
Natas
“I am merely an observer to these historical events, but I do believe the science to be sound.”
Frankie
“Exactly, my friend. Tonight we make history. We will create life where there was none.”
Frankie uncovers the cadaver and then starts to connect the cables to it.
Frankie
“Please stand back.”
Natas and Mrs. Shelley step back. Frankie joins them after a few minutes.
Frankie
“Now we wait.”
Lightning strikes continue to strike around the castle.
Minutes later a solitary lightning bolt strikes the rod atop the tower and electricity follows down the wire and coils.
Nothing happens. A small fire breaks out against a far wall.
Advocate and Frankie start to put out the fire.
Mrs. Shelley’s focus is on the fire.
Natas walks over and touches the corpse and Natas steps back.
A few minutes later Mrs. Shelley notices the corpse begins to move.
Mrs. Shelley
“Doctor.”
She says pointing at the cadaver.
Frankie
“It’s alive.”
The fire continues to get worse.
Natas grabs Mrs. Shelley by the arm.
Natas
“Madam, we must make our leave.”
Mrs. Shelley
“We can’t…”
Natas pauses time and suddenly they are both outside of the castle.
Mrs. Shelley
“…leave. Where are we?”
Mrs. Shelley looks around.
Natas
“We are outside my dear. Don’t you remember running out?”
Mrs. Shelley
“No. Not really. What about the Doctor and his servant?”
Natas
“I’m sorry, I don’t believe they survived.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Those poor souls.”
Natas and Mrs. Shelley stand and watch the castle as it is engulfed in flames.
The next day both Natas and Mrs. Shelley are back at the inn. Mrs. Shelley finds Natas in the lobby.
Mrs. Shelley
“Good morning Mr. Natusch.”
Natas
“Good Morning Mrs. Shelley. Do you depart today?”
Mrs. Shelley
“Yes. My carriage will be leaving within the hour.”
Natas
“I would like you to know that it was a pleasure to meet you. Though I do wish it had been under better circumstances.”
Mrs. Shelley
“Mr. Natusch, would it be immoral of me to write about what we witnessed?”
Natas
“No, my dear. I believe that the world needs to know about monsters and the things that go bump in the night.”
Mrs. Shelley
“I’m not quite sure where to begin.”
Natas
“Begin with the truth. The rest will work itself out.”
Mrs. Shelley
“I would have to affirm the story to be fiction and only you and I would know what happened.”
Natas
“Perhaps every fairy tale begins with a hint of truth.”
